    • A Riddle within a poem.

Hello my friends. I know it's been some time since I've posted to this forum, almost a year or so now, but college gets in the way of things at times. I was going through some of my favorite poetry when I came upon a piece I'd written a long time ago. When I wrote this piece, I was exploring the use of riddles as a way to get people to really think about the world around them. This particular piece, written back in 2000, has caused more "discussions" than I could count. Heh, some quite heated at times. I wanted to share it with you and see your take on it.

This is a poem about nothing.

No flowing words about gardens or trees.

No tales of the birds and the bees,

Because, this is a poem of nothing.

This is a poem about nothing.

No winking stars in the evening skies.

      No mysteries or lovely eyes,

No, this is truly about nothing.

This is a poem about something.

Of this, I truly now know.

It's so very odd how things can go.

Because, this poem is something about nothing.

Btw, if you see a profile on BEBO where an individual named Larry, (SN Larryman07) who is claiming to be the author of that piece, he's not. I've asked him several times to relabel it to put the correct author, but it's like pulling teeth.

And yes, in the previous post I used "Carefully" A lot. That is because of an old proverb "Make haste slowly" It is safer to take things one step at a time rather than rush in too swiftly.

I have been sitting and thinking of this subject as of late. Does anyone read Anne McCaffrey? I know this is going to sound a bit.. sci-fi-ish and probably get quite a few laughing but, ah well that hell. In the series that features The Rowan, To Ride Pegasus, Pegasus in Flight, Get off Pegasus, Lyon's Pride, etc, people are actively seeking those with unique talents because the world, once fearful of those with unusual abilitiles, now embraces them. They become a vital asset to the role of mankind in this universe. From the powerfully telekenetic to the telepathic. Empathis were placed as healers and those who were found to have unique gifts were carefully trained to share their abilities with all and were carefully trained to be incorruptible. Well, I admit, I always wonder why ones such as us do not come together, carefully, training our gifts to where we can prove ourselves an asset to society as a whole. True enough, these books ARE Sci-Fi with a bit of fantasy rolled in, but the premise is there that is not without foundation. True there will always be those that consider those with such abilities to be "freaks" or even a threat to their way of life, but I honestly believe that if people came together and carefully trained themselves, and their children, to dicipline their minds and bring their gifts to fullest of their potental, it could really change things in how mainstream society views people who are, to be honest, different. Especially if children with unique talents are trained from the time they are quite young. After all, are not our gifts like an entirely different sort of muscles? If not used, they risk becoming weakened?

    • RE: Knowing when to accept being different. Once was "Should power be kept secret"

Hm, honestly, I think there is no "one answer" to it. It is a blessing, not a curse. Why find answers when one should not question why they have the gifts they have. But rather, ask ourselves, "How do we better use them for the good of all, not just for ourselves." The sad thing is, however, I've seen prejudice go both ways. Those who distrust us for being different from what people percieve as "normal".. and those of us who look down on those without such gifts and think that the ungifted are, therefore, inferior.

I'll be glad to hear from you Laie and see your views. But as you can see by the silence on this thread, this is a subject not many wants to talk about. Even amongst the gifted, it is an... uncomfortable one.

    • RE: Hidden Gifts, should they be kept secret?

I have been doing a great deal of thinking. When I started this thread I thought to myself, what is the one reason that young individuals would have for keeping their unique talents a secret even from their own families? A secret that even I kept for years. The most misunderstanding group there is, at times, can be one's own family. The hard part is knowing when to stand up to the fear of one's own family turning their backs and going "I need to tell you the truth." But on the flip side, those like ourselves who have truly unique gifts must also be understanding in return. We must accept people for who they are no matter what. Be it pagan, christian, catholic, jewish, muslum, bhudist, taoist, druid, straight or not, black, white, nativie etc.. Sometimes the reason, I think, some may fear revealing their difference to others.. is due to how they treat others who are different. What do you think?

Hm, in truth, Chrissi? In addition to making jewelry, if it will not effect your health, there is nothing wrong with taking a part time job. Or, perhaps, depending on what you create, increase the rates of your jewelry or start making other things as well to sell. If you live in a rual area, birdhouses are sometimes a big sell as well. Esp. martin houses. Just some food for thought?

I'll do readings in a bit. I'm still getting my new cards used to me.,, Admittedly, my work tires me and I sometimes just have to let my mind idle. All of you be safe in these snow storms.
