Captain, Can you please offer me some insight?

  • Hi. I'm a Scorpio, Gemini moon and Leo Rising. How will the new moon solar eclipse in Cancer (taking place on July 11,2010) affect me? Lately, I've been thinking about my friendships and relationships with people like my best friend Quasim (7/5/85), my ex-bf Marcus (1/10/87), my former friend Terrance and my ex- bf's best friend Samantha (8/18/87). I still care deeply for my former friend and ex-bf. Will things get better between us in time?

Thanks in advance for your patience and spiritual guidance.

  • My former friend's dob is 6/22/90

  • You would be beter served asking an astrologer about the eclipse.

If you put in the time and effort with people, your relationships may indeed improve. But there has to be work on both sides for this to happen. Your friends may not want to put in the effort.

  • Here are a few astrologers take on the new moon solar eclipse and sorry I know its alot of reading:

About the Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 11, 2010

A total Solar Eclipse occurs on July 11th at 3:41 PM EDT at 19 degrees and 24 minutes of Cancer. Its effects can be felt up to six months after the actual date of the eclipse. In the Moon-ruled sign of Cancer, domestic issues, family, personal popularity, the public, women's interests, safety, security, food, support, our past/roots/heritage, and emotional issues will be a strong focus on a personal level. This eclipse is about new beginnings regarding all of these matters.

Occurring in Cancer, we are called upon to feed our foundation--all of that which we call "home", including the foundation we have built inside of ourselves, needs to be tended to and honored. We need to pay attention to our instincts, our deepest needs, and our feelings; and to recognize the importance of our family and our personal circle of friends and the security, sense of belonging, and safety we derive from them. We are called upon to get in touch with our vulnerability and our needs for intimacy, as well as opening ourselves up to accepting support from others; to offer and show support for others, without a hidden agenda; and we might begin a new project that involves improving the home itself, or improving domestic life in general.

With this potent Cancer energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters. Some of Cancer's "lessons" involve learning to feed our souls, to honor our innermost feelings, and to get in touch with our vulnerability and dependency on others. We are reminded of our support system and our need for a sense of safety and security. If we focus too much on achieving our career objectives at the expense of building a solid sense of personal satisfaction, we eventually become ineffective both personally and professionally. Why? Because our push for results on a professional level will not bring us long-term success if we don't know what it is we need for ourselves on a personal level.

Flaws in an important system in our lives are revealed around the time of the eclipse, prompting us to redo or to start fresh. Something ends in order for something else to start anew. We may be called to give up something in order to move forward into a new chapter in our lives. Although the "new" may be unrecognizable, it is important to allow the necessary surrender to the unknown.

The eclipse point itself is sextile Mars, and we have the necessary energy at our disposal to make necessary changes. The harmonious sextiles suggests it may be natural to do these things.

An eclipse occurs close to the nodal axis, and this eclipse is widely conjunct the South Node. This suggests that we may be hesitant about making changes, preferring to cling to the past. Letting go of something that has been holding us back is likely to figure. Eclipses conjuncting the South Node tend to "feel" more challenging than those conjuncting the North Node, at least initially, as we are called upon to give up or release something, and to move out of a familiar place or a comfort zone.

Major developments in the personal areas ruled by Cancer in our charts are likely to occur over the course of the next 3-6 months. However, because this is the one of many in a series of eclipses falling in Cancer-Capricorn, we can extend this range much further. The first occurred in July 2009. The last eclipse falling along this axis will occur in January 2011. Not everyone will feel the effect of the eclipse with the same intensity. Those whose personal planets are activated by the degree of the eclipse will most feel its effects on a personal level.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 19 degrees and 24 minutes of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at 12 to 28 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

Solar eclipses occurred at approximately the same degree as this July 2010 eclipse on July 9, 1964, July 10, 1972, and July 11, 1991. It might help to think back to these periods and consider the themes that surrounded your life then in order to get a better understanding of what the current eclipse series might mean for you. Also, as noted above, a Solar Eclipse occurred in the sign of Cancer in July 2009, and if you think back to the summer of last year, issues that emerged then can re-emerge or continue to need attention.

The chart above shows the other planets' positions at the time of the eclipse.

If this eclipse stimulates your 1st-7th house axis, you are called upon to strike a balance between relationship and self. Issues of personal courage, confidence, and independence come to the fore over the next year. You may, for example, receive a cosmic push towards expressing yourself more creatively (especially if 19 Cancer is in the first house), and experience an increased drive to take charge of your life. Issues surrounding personal appearance, the body, and one's image become especially important and, in some cases, critical. Basically, you will be learning to stand on your own two feet! This sequence of eclipses will alert you to the need to interact with others--either the public, or through a close partnership (especially if 19 Cancer is in the seventh house). For some, marriage or divorce will be an issue. For most, carving out a personal identity that includes a significant other who furthers their own personal growth will come into focus. The July eclipse should give you a push towards a stronger identity or sense of purposefulness through close partnership.

If this eclipse stimulates your 2nd-8th house axis, you will be called upon to strike a balance between your own needs for security and comfort and the same needs of other people, likely those of a significant other. If 19 Cancer is in the second house, personal finances will come into strong focus. How well have you taken care of your finances? More importantly, have you taken charge of your personal sense of security? If 19 Cancer is in the eighth house, issues of sexuality and spirituality may be a stronger focus. In either case, issues of shared resources, sexuality, and possessions are featured. With this eclipse, it's time to start fresh with regards to how you go about satisfying your needs for security and comfort. If 19 Cancer is in the second house, take charge of your life by taking the necessary steps to make yourself feel good and secure. You are called upon to make a stand and to tend to your comfort levels. If you do so, the positive effects will ricochet back into your intimate life. If you continue to tend to your partner's comfort levels while ignoring your own, feelings of resentment and neglect can infect your relationships. Get in touch with what feels most comfortable for you, and the intimacy level in your relationship will step up a notch. If 19 Cancer is in the eighth house, you are learning about the comfort levels of others. Essentially, you are learning to share and to surrender yourself (in a balanced manner!) to intimacy.

If the 3rd-9th house axis is stimulated by this eclipse, issues surrounding learning and sharing knowledge will come to the fore. For some, issues surrounding attention to one's immediate environment, and branching out and beyond it, are stimulated. If 19 Cancer is in the third house, you are receiving a cosmic push to become more active in your immediate environment (neighborhood, with siblings/relatives, etc.), and/or to learn and communicate facts that fuel your opinions. If 19 Cancer is in the ninth house, you will be learning to expand your horizons, either through contact with people from an entirely different background than yours, travel, or higher learning. Your personal philosophy will be changing, and this eclipse gives you a push towards adopting beliefs that truly work for you in the real world. Other possible issues stimulated include transportation and mobility (for example, some may be learning to depend on others for getting from point A to point B, and others may be learning to take charge of their own mobility), running errands and tending to one's daily life effectively, and learning about one's need for self-expression through adventure.

If the 4th-10th house axis is stimulated by this eclipse, issues surrounding public and private lives, as well as attention to career and to family, are stimulated. The fourth house rules our instinctual needs, the domestic scene, our needs for security, and our focus on family and home life as well as relationships with family. The tenth house rules our needs for status, our career and reputation, our worldly ambitions, structure, and our drive for success. Striking a balance between these issues is the focus of this sequence of eclipses. If 19 Cancer is in the fourth house, it's time to take steps to improve your family and home life. This eclipse is the first cosmic push for you to take charge of your private life. If 19 Cancer is in the tenth house, you are called upon to pay more attention to your career and public life, and to take charge of this important part of your life. Either way, this can play out in a number of ways. Some may have to make some critical decisions due to situations in the life that force them to make choices between career and family goals. Some people are promoted or their career takes a new direction (especially if an eclipse occurs close to the Midheaven). The challenge is to find a healthy balance--to improve home life, while at the same time tending to one's career needs.

If this eclipse stimulates your 5th-11th house axis, social activity is the focus. The need to be appreciated by others, and the need for togetherness with others, comes into play. A love affair may begin or end under this influence. New contacts with others may also occur. If 19 Cancer is in the fifth, you will learn to let go of a fear of taking risks, and to develop the courage to strike out on your own individual and creative path without fear. You are called upon to deal with others in a more personal, involved, and loving manner, rather than falling back on reason and intellect, which detaches you from your feelings. This series of eclipses is about learning to take personal risks, which requires a certain amount of self-confidence. If 19 Cancer is in the eleventh, you will be learning about letting go of your attachment to the drama of romance and personal relationships, as well as your willfulness. You are called upon to learn about the value of the team. You may need to give freedom to your romantic partner instead of expecting him or her to follow a script of your own making. You learn the value of brotherly love and the benefits of a sense of belonging to a community. Events are such that you move towards a more objective approach to your life and you cultivate true friendships.

If this eclipse stimulates your 6th-12th house axis, issues of work and service, as well as health (both mental/spiritual, and physical), come into focus. If 19 Cancer is in the sixth house, you are called upon to deal with the the details and practicalities of everyday life, to become more organized, and to take charge of your routines. It's time to formulate some clear goals and plans. Circumstances are such that you need to develop some healthy habits, routines, and schedules. Believing in a grand plan is fine, but practical concerns need to be dealt with as well. Recognizing your personal limitations in terms of just how much you can give to others and just how much compassion and understanding you can show is essential now. It's time to structure your life. If 19 Cancer is in the twelfth house, over the next year you are called upon to rid yourself of guilt about under-performing, and to develop faith and trust in a larger more spiritual plan. It's time to let go of some of your fears that you are not doing enough, to develop more compassion and understanding of others, and to be humble, feeling safe in the knowledge that you (and others) are not perfect. It's time to let go of some of your obsessions with rules, details, and fears of not doing things perfectly. When this axis is stimulated, issues of guilt, worry, and anxiety become paramount.

I keep looking at the chart for the New Moon in Cancer on July 11, 2010 12:40 PM PDT and what pops out at me is there are two very different messages to be found: One from the New Moon tightly sextile Mars in Virgo and the other dealing with aspects to the cardinal T-square.

The New Moon at 19° 24” Cancer is a solar eclipse, always good for drawing attention to any and all issues of the sign involved. This time around we will be getting a refresher course on all things related to the fourth house and Cancer. Home, family, our mothers, our “roots”, those who share our homes, our ancestors and the dwelling we live in.

Mars in Virgo sextile to this powerhouse suggests it is a good time to tend to the many small tasks most of us have been putting off regarding our homes. You know . . . fix the leaky faucet, mow the lawn, take time for our children (if you have them), decide what color to paint the living room, etc. Both Cancer and Virgo are low key, private signs and much better at working quietly by themselves.

Then there is the cardinal T-square. Welcome to the fast lane! Uranus in Aries, newly retrograde, is conjoined Jupiter in Aries, both squaring Pluto in Capricorn and opposing Saturn at 29° Virgo. All are aspected by Mercury in Leo, Venus in Virgo, Neptune in Aquarius and last but not least, Chiron at 0° Pisces.

An interesting pattern is created with Mercury in Leo semi-sextile Venus in Virgo with Mercury trine Jupiter-Uranus in Aries and Venus trine Pluto in Capricorn (Jupiter-Uranus sq Pluto). The potential here is for the earth signs (Virgo and Capricorn) to battle it out with the fire signs (Aries and Leo). The fire sign contingent is leaping to conclusions as fast as it can while the earth signs are demanding accountability and more attention to details. This could get very ugly very quickly.

There has never been a time when it is more important to make sure everyone clearly understands one another. Are we saying “apple” but what we mean is “orange”? Mercury in Leo is noted more for grand presentation and less for precision. With Jupiter-Uranus yelling ‘go for it’ in the background, we could end shouting at each other only to find out after the fact, we were of the same opinion in the first place. A good rule of thumb is to double check your facts BEFORE throwing yourself into the fray.

Venus in Virgo is also opposing Chiron in Pisces and both are favorably aspecting Pluto in Capricorn. On the surface this is pleasant but with Pluto on board it is best not assume anything. Pluto has a knack for hauling dirty laundry to the surface and Chiron will help with this. Acceptance and forgiveness are the tools needed here because ignoring our less desirable traits and pretending they don’t exist is so not an option.

It is also important to note Venus is inconjunct Jupiter and Uranus in Aries. Aries just flat drives Virgo ‘round the bend with their need to dash on to the next project without finishing the last one. Frustration levels everywhere are being pushed to their limits.

We are a couple of weeks from Saturn moving into Libra on July 21 and my intuitive sense is those who rush to judgment under the current influences will be very unhappy campers when it does. As Saturn pulls away from the inconjunct with Neptune in Aquarius and the fog lifts, reality returns.

The Sabian symbol for 20 Cancer is “Venetian gondoliers in a serenade”. While a romantic interlude is wonderful for relaxation and feeling pampered, keep in mind it is an interlude and thus has little to do with daily life. I see a connection to the semi-sextile between Mercury in fun loving Leo and Venus in more abstemious practical Virgo. When the Sun moves from Leo into Virgo, we often find ourselves cleaning up after the party . . . the natural transition from the pleasures of the fifth house to the workaday routines of the sixth.

All in all a tricky lunation to navigate and patience will be required to emerge with as little damage as is humanly possible. Lately I have felt more and more like I’m standing still in the center of a hurricane, with friends and family swirling around, dashing in and out of my life. These must be the “interesting times” referred to in the Chinese curse!

**In the Earth-Keepers newsletter, James Tyberonn explains: “When a Total Solar Eclipse occurs on a New Moon, a very special energy of transformation occurs. On July 11, 2010 this will take place. Are you ready? Take time for this day, and utilize its extraordinary potentials for the positive. Keep your energy intact, and do not allow emotions to fray, and indeed the temptation to become anxious or over react will be there. The July 11 Total Solar Eclipse is a New Moon with an extremely tremendous impact. The Sun that gives us life and lights our path is joined briefly with the dark and mysterious qualities of the Moon. The Moon blocks the light of the Sun. In this moment of perceived darkness, spirituality and the psyche combine anew, beginning another cycle in the spiral of our personal development. Great openings and great closures can occur – great advancement or untoward downward spiral. It is up to you. This Eclipse is extremely meaningful. Don’t ignore it.

**Astrologer Gary Caton has these observations about the July 11th eclipse and their connection with time and light: “As if there weren’t enough juice flowing through the cardinal signs — with four of the five outer planets currently transiting near the solstice and equinoctial points — we now begin a period where the Cancer archetype will be forced open, ejecting its inner contents and forcing all the world to become aware of the loss. This is because an eclipse is essentially a rip in the fabric of time, and the South Node (now in Cancer) suggests a loss. To appreciate the power of an eclipse, it is useful to understand that time here on Earth is fractal. It is measured by the constant repetition of the primal alternations of darkness and light. This rhythm of dark/light is ingrained into our bodies and psyches. When there is a disruption of this pattern, via an eclipse, the natural flow of the dark/light fractal is stopped in its tracks. There is darkness where there should be light. It is as if the Laws of our Universe are temporarily inverted. The world is stood on its head, specifically in terms of the archetype within which the eclipse is operating. An eclipse occurs when there is a lunation near the lunar nodes — the place where the Moon crosses the path of the Sun or ecliptic. Astrologically, the lunar nodes have been called the head and tail of the dragon, for in myth it was a demonic serpent swallowing the heavenly orb. The North Node represents the head of the dragon, therefore something being taken in or ingested. The South Node or tail of the dragon represents something being released. The South Node is now in the sign of Cancer. As a Cancer nation, it is hard not to remember the exodus of American celebrities and dignitaries that surrounded last summer’s solar eclipse at 29° Cancer. A partial list includes: Ed McMahon, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, David Carradine, Karl Malden, Steve McNair, Walter Cronkite, Les Paul, and Eunice Kennedy Shriver. We lost Ted Kennedy on the day that Venus crossed the eclipse degree. It is almost as if a door was opened to the “other side” through which these souls were bound to exit. It should be noted that the release doesn’t always have to be destructive. (It can signal transformation, rather than death.) When wondering what the coming eclipse will release, it is important to remember that eclipses happen in families or series; a new member emerges about every 18 years. This is the Saros cycle, first discovered by Babylonian astronomer/astrologers more than two millennium ago. Solar eclipses with very similar characteristics repeat every 18 years, 11 days, 8 hours; these eclipses are then part of the same family or Saros series. Any two eclipses separated by one Saros (6,585.3 days) share very similar geometries. They occur at the same node with the Moon, at nearly the same distance from Earth, and at the same time of year. The current eclipse belongs to Saros Series 146, the last two of which occurred in June 1992 and 1974. This series is made up of a total of 76 eclipses; the current July 11, 2010 eclipse is number 27 in the series. The family began on September 19, 1541. The first total eclipse in the series took place on May 29, 1938. The eclipse of June 30, 1992 was the longest total eclipse of the series and lasted 5 minutes and 21 seconds with a magnitude 1.0592. The July 11, 2010 eclipse is the 2nd longest of the series, lasting 5 minutes and 20 seconds with a magnitude 1.0580. When we look at the birth chart for this series, we see a very powerful conjunction of Mars with Uranus in late Leo near the Persian Royal star Regulus. Certainly this series has recently seen its share of sudden dramatic reversals in fame and/or power, including Hitler in 1938, Elvis in 1956, Nixon in 1974, and the British Royal Family in 1992.”

Jude Cowell on his Stars Over Washington blog adds: “On July 11, 2010 there’s the Solar Eclipse with Scorpio (big business; betrayals and spying) rising with the midpoint of Saturn and Pluto, two of the main actors on 9/11/01 during their opposition. Saturn/Pluto = ASC: concentration upon important matters; assessments of how to work with those in power; an environment that gives an impression of silent power or continuing influence; being placed in cumbersome or difficult circumstances; separation; melancholy; mourning or bereavement. There is also 8th house involvement (Shared Resources, Debt, Credit, Insurance, Transformation, Death, the Occult) which relates to the Fixed Star Castor which is being triggered by the July 11, 2010 Solar Eclipse @ 19Can24, plus, ‘20Can/Cap are crisis or critical degrees. Basically, 8th house crises are indicated yet the Solar Eclipse itself describes problems that at first seem worse, then clear with good outcomes… so don’t panic. The July 11 Eclipse is in the same Series (12S) as America’s Pre-Natal Eclipse Series (@ 00Pis34 in 1776, where Chiron transits now.) That stock markets may be affected adversely by the July Solar Eclipse and by its herald, the June 26, 2010 Lunar Eclipse conjoining secretive Pluto in Saturn-ruled Capricorn, is a distinct possibility for Summer into Autumn 2010.

On July 11th, the only total Solar eclipse of the year occurs... In fact, there isn't another one until November of 2012. (We just had a partial lunar eclipse last month on June 26th. They usually come in pairs like that.) According to the calculations of Vedic astrology (which differ from those of Western astrology by almost an entire sign) this eclipse occurs on the day of the new Moon, in the sign of Gemini. That said, if you have something significant in your chart in the sign of Gemini (in Vedic astrology, that is) - your Sun, Moon, or rising sign especially - you may find you have less energy or are more sensitive now. If your Sun sign, Moon sign, or rising sign is Leo. Leo is "ruled" by the Sun - so it's as though the power source of Leos is being blocked right now...) This is typical in the week building up to an eclipse, and the few days that follow.Because this eclipse is in the sign of Gemini astrologers expect more negative upheaval in terms of communications, electronics, and technology (perhaps more "snafus" like the recent drastic drop in the stock market from a computer glitch... that kind of thing). As for what we individuals should consider, it's not recommended to start anything new of great importance within two weeks of an eclipse. Don't make any major decisions personally or professionally, try not to sign any big contracts (also under Gemini's influence), and watch out for feeling way more sensitive than usual... If you know your astrology chart, an eclipse will especially affect the part of your chart the eclipse connects to... In other words, the house which holds the sign of Gemini, and any planets you may have there. As I said above, those of us with Gemini or Leo as our Sun sign, Moon sign, or rising sign will be the most impacted by this eclipses. For close personal relationships, watch out... Gemini is the sign of communication. And the sun has a lot to do with important MEN in your life - your father, your boss, or your main fella... So do yourself a favor and put off any big decisions with any of them - or any big talks about "tough" topics. They probably won't go so well now... Besides, they're feeling extra sensitive now, too, after all. So, what should you do? Eclipses are considered an excellent time for inner reflection. You know - meditation, contemplation, yoga, chanting, spiritual practices, or getting more organized. Just put off any business launches, contract signings, major purchases (like real estate, vehicles, large loans, etc.) signing up for internet dating, going on blind dates, and the like, until after all this has passed.
