February's Virgo full Moon falls on Feb 26 in Australia and Feb 25 in the United States. The highlights of this full Moon include a tight t-square from Jupiter, Chiron conjuncting the Sun and opposing the Moon, Mars conjuncting Mercury and Venus conjuncting Neptune. All in all, a rather interesting, instructive, psychic and healing full Moon.
The Sabian Symbol for this full Moon is Virgo 8: A Girl Takes Her First Dancing Lesson. This is an interesting degree that can show happiness, gaiety, joy and the love of being alive and it can also manifest as naivete, issues to do with learning and assimilating life's lessons, it can show the ability to dance around situations rather than facing them head on and it can be a beautiful image of lightness of being and wanting to live, love and learn. In the process, one takes on the mantle of teacher as well as student. With this degree in such high focus, issues can arise around remaining the student forever, having others take care of the difficult stuff in life as they dance through the complications barely noticing what effects others are experiencing.
You may find yourself in a situation that is brand new to you and you need to “learn the ropes”. You have the potential to do well, but initially you may be unsure of what to do or how to act (or react), or what “steps” to take. Even though you may know a lot about many things, in regard to the situation facing you, you may not have had much experience. There may be a lot to take in, absorb and learn at the moment but one day you’ll probably look back and see that it was actually easy, like learning to ride a bike. After the steps to the “dance” have been learnt, you will be able to display more maturity and grace. Eventually, people can stop telling you how to perform. However, no matter how much we know, we go on learning throughout our entire life. For now you have to listen, respond and learn – that is, unless you are the "teacher" although the teacher has to have assimilated these lessons as well as the "student". Pay attention to what is being taught and what, indeed, can be learnt, and you will continue to learn and go far in life. Music and ‘Dance’ can lift your life; indeed they can transform it.
Keywords: Practice makes perfect. Higher talents being developed. Learning discipline, self-control and concentration. Taking on something new. Listening to and following instructions. Moving into a new sense of being. Losing innocence. Learning the steps without thinking. Music and dance. Following the rhythm. Progressing from one thing to the next. Instructors and students.
The Caution: Difficulty understanding lessons. Continually returning to the beginning. Not trusting the teacher or instruction. Having to learn things against one’s desires. Believing that one knows everything already. Fears of being seen as a beginner or clumsy. Having two left feet. Not paying attention to life’s lessons. Naivety.
This degree can also show where someone is teaching, or wanting to teach or instruct, others about how they 'should' be doing things. It can be that the 'instructor' knows and the 'pupil' - the 'young girl' - is in need of instruction. This can be misleading as it can be that the 'instructor' knows less than the 'young girl' - at least in terms of true 'knowledge'. It can also show the issue of who leads and who follows. Who is learning the steps of the dance really? Is it that 'the man' always leads and 'the woman' has to follow? Some of these old ways at looking at relationships are fading away, some still remain as inhabiting the rules of the patriachy can be a hard habit to let go of.
The Karmic Condition of this full Moon is Virgo 6: A Harem. This adds to the idea of the young girl taking her first dancing lesson. This is about having a harem, having a group of people (particularly women), someone who loves to spend time with groups of women, to feel like they fit in with the sisterhood, to have those that they love around them and sharing in their lives; in their tasks and joys. It can show people competing for sexual favours and trying to curry the favour of 'the Sultan'. Issues of possessiveness can arise, particularly if 'the women' feel owned by 'the man'. There can be a desire to be at the center of the harem, a or the feeling of being excluded, or merely being a plaything for the main object of desire. and it can also show a consciousness that feels that they have people at their disposal; they are the Grand Poobah of the group - above reproach, above being challenged and above it all, calling the shots and telling others how
it should be.
Keywords: Rising above jealousy, arrogance and passion. Waiting to be bestowed with the gift of being “chosen”. Women’s circles, sometimes closed. Women’s groups. Working together. Sharing feminine rituals and stories. Egyptian tales. One person calling the shots. Beauty salons. Seduction of the senses. Seducing others. Having one’s needs serviced. Women pampering each other. People who serve. Adoring the other. Sultans. Polygamy. Polyamory.
The Caution: Being just one of “the mob”. Not having a sense of personal importance. Mistrust of others, particularly women. Seeing people as competition. The spread of socially unacceptable diseases. Locked doors. Sexual infidelity. Needing the love of many. Eunuchs. Assuming the right to dominate others.
With The Harem degree around, often there's not much in the way of conventional relationships going on - it can show groups of women with the occasional man thrown in. Men can be missing entirely from the harem with the masculine presence being rejected, forgotten or perhaps the women have grown past the need to have a man around. Often it is really the 'odd man' - someone who thinks that women should do his bidding, be there when he hollers and just there for his amusement. Of course, some men are truly into the feminine and love having women around - treating them with respect and love and listening to their concerns, hopes and dreams. Sadly, nowadays, a lot of women find that this is more the exception than the rule. Of course, one does not have to accept the strong gender bias here, there are men who long to be closer to women, who may feel shut out, like they've been left out of the game and not invited to truly participate. Women's groups can feel like exclusive clubs that men cannot enter.
The trick with the full Moon here seems to be to bring the different aspects together - the feminine and the masculine - and to have the best blending of the two, rather than feeling that a great gulf or polarity splits them apart.
The Sun at this full Moon is on Pisces 8: A Girl Blowing A Bugle. This can show the need for someone to speak up, perhaps to make announcements, to state her case. Perhaps she's been penting up things and now she's ready to make more of a noise about it; to sound off about what's been on her mind.
Keywords: Sounding the call. Awakening all to action. Going on and on about something. Loudspeakers, telephones, announcements. Being prepared to state one’s case. Calling attention to one’s self. Blowing your own trumpet. Whistle blowers. Heralding and proclaiming the dawn. Rise and shine! Girls in a man’s world. Leading the charge. Resurrection. Mass announcements. Advertising campaigns. Alarm clocks. Ear plugs. Blind folds. Breaking the fast. Proclamations.
The Caution: Making unwarranted and disturbing noise. Showing off. Unbalanced messages. Evangelists and politicians. Sounding the call but not making the grade. Being annoying. Trumpeting about one’s achievements. Not listening to people.
The Karmic Condition of the Sun is Pisces 7: Illuminated By A Shaft Of Light, A Large Cross Lies On Rocks Surrounded By Sea And Mist. This can be quite a difficult degree of loss, and it can show a difficulty seeing or accepting hope in one's life and can show a lack of faith in people and life. It brings with it the need for a realignment with one's goals, especially after having to adjust expectations of life and what it can bring you. Sacrifice and loss are to be mourned, but a renewal of hope, faith, love and light is the aim here. The 'Illumination' can bring a spotlight on problems, or a ray of light that illuminates the landscape, showing the road to recovery.
Issues to do with The Church are coming up everywhere, with abuse allegations and corruption and cover ups and the announcement of the resignation of The Pope, etc. We are bound to be hearing much more about this in coming times, especially when Neptune gets to this degree in the years ahead.
Keywords: Renewed dedication after loss. Looking for signs of hope and recovery. Coming to terms with loss or failure. Rocks, mist, howling winds on coasts. Crosses of faith. Important and substantial sacrifices. Being devastated by events. Being in the “spotlight” in difficult times. Finding the way through the dark. The need for sacrifice. Alternative religions. Stepping outside religious boundaries.
The Caution: Lost faith. Hopes dashed. Giving up. Being shattered by the constraints of life. Depression. Feeling like one is being sacrificed, sometimes for nothing. Unable to see through the fog. Scorn, persecution and attack because of religious or social reasons. Hopelessness. Things grim, dark and foreboding.
As I write this, the wind and the rain are swirling around and I'm living right on the beach here in Australia and the sound of the waves and the wind and the rain is swirling and swirling and pounding. It is very tempestuous and the foundations of the house feel like they're being rattled by the enormity of the energy. Sea and mist and rocks - quite an evocative image.
Forming an exact t-square with the Sun and the Moon is Jupiter at Gemini 8: Aroused Strikers Surround A Factory.
Keywords: Bargaining to find more equitable solutions. Demanding better rights and conditions. Comradeship. Disruption of the normal flow. Not wanting to contribute or work. Taking time out to consider one’s position. Taking action or refusing to act. Labor strikes and strikers. Demonstrations. Peace rallies. Standing up for others. Scab labor. Sweat shops. Slave labor. Strikes. Bosses. Workers. Placard waving.
The Caution: Being obsessed with what is desired. Refusing any compromises. Going without one’s due in order to protest. Being locked out because of one’s actions or attitude. Being left out in the street. Greedy behavior. Asking for more than one’s share. Overworked and underpaid. Shutting down.
Jupiter passed over this degree during July of last year and retrograded through this degree during Christmas and New Year and is now going direct over the degree again and will be on this degree until around the 3rd March. Jupiter is about freedom and our ability to call our own shots. In Gemini, especially on The Striking degree, it can show a restless nature that may not know how to stop for very long, or, it can show someone who goes 'on strike' at the slightest excuse. There are many ways to go on strike; emotionally, mentally, physically, etc.
With Virgo 8, Pisces 8 and Gemini 8 all in such high focus, it is interesting to note these themes always play out for these degrees.
The Quest degree of the Aroused Strikers degree is Gemini 9: A Medieval Archer Stands With The Ease Of One Wholly Sure Of Himself, His Quiver Filled With Arrows. This speaks of waiting and being composed and taking aim and then going after your target or what you want.
Practice makes perfect. Old SayingYou will soon break the bow if you keep it always stretched. Phaedrus
Keywords: Being armed and ready. Having the aim and ammunition. Accuracy and strength. Getting to the point. The power of tension. Sending a message true and clear. Skills that create confidence and assurance. Focus. Bulls-eyes. Bows and arrows. Warriors. The determination to prevail.
The Caution: Going into battle unprepared. Overconfidence in one’s mission. Being trigger-happy. Someone “cocksure” of themselves. Threatening postures of attack or defense. Always being on the alert for any opportunity to fight. The thug.
Conjuncting the Sun, opposing the Moon and squaring Jupiter is Chiron at Pisces 10: An Aviator In The Clouds. Chiron is known as The Wounded Healer archetype, first the wound, then the healing, but I also see it very much as The Stories We Tell Ourselves. There is a lot of wounding and healing and story telling around this full Moon - a lot of releasing of old wounds, especially those that hang around making us feel misshapen or weird or renegade. With the Aviator, the trick is to stay grounded while having an elevated view of what's going on, both within and without.
Keywords: Always seeing the best in people and things. Peace and tranquility. The longing for transcendence. Not seeing limitations. Being in a refined “head space”. Mastery. Flight, planes, pilots. Avoidance of time constraints. Pollyanna attitudes. Free flights of fantasy and escapism. The need for accurate navigation. Being in charge of the controls. Seeking higher truths. Maps. Compasses. Global satellite positioning. Clouds. Mist and fog. Hang-gliding.
The Caution: Sailing through difficulties or missing what’s really going on. Escapist use of alcohol and drugs, etc. Lack of grounded energy or reality. Being unearthed. Escaping responsibilities. Isolating oneself. Completely missing the point. Feeling high and mighty and above everyone else, particularly with intellectual skills. Wrong turns. Missing the signs. Feeling like you're living in a fog. Disconnecting from others leading to isolation. Losing the plot. Taking huge risks. One's head being separate from the body. Drugs.
Mercury is the ruler of this Virgo full Moon and it goes retrograde on the 23rd February on Pisces 20: A Table Set For An Evening Meal. This is about the provision of life's necessities, being able to eat and enjoy with others, having one's needs met and issues of 'who will serve and who will eat'. Making a meal can be a complete joy, with friends and family joining in or dining alone and enjoying every moment of it, but, it can also be a drag where you're always expected to come up with the food, the ideas of what to eat, the clean house, the grocery shopping and the effort of feeding one's self and other people every single day.
Together with Mercury is Mars on Pisces 19: A Master Instructing His Disciple. Here we have Mars, which can be combative, earnest, head-strong and intentional, in Pisces, which is not a particularly easy sign for Mars to be in and on this degree of the Master and the Disciple, which is a rather Piscean image, and conjunct (together with) Mercury, the planet of thought and communication.
Relationships that are imbalanced where one feels like they are the one with all the answers and the other feels like they are a servant or the one who has to kneel at someone's feet could go through some changes or upheavals as the energy will be charged up and firing and possibly demanding and self righteous. Here again, the image of the student and the teacher arises.
Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. Buddha
Keywords: To give and to receive. Lessons that need to be well learnt. The transfer of knowledge. Taking time to instruct others. Being willing to both teach and learn. Step-by-step lessons. Passing on information. Instructions and directions. Laying down the law with someone. Manuscripts and lessons. Masters. Gurus. Guiding lights. Reinforcement of knowledge, wisdom and spirituality. Listening and learning. Knowing what questions to ask. Doing homework. Being or setting a good example.
The Caution: Dogmatic instruction by rote. Talking down to others, thinking they know less. Someone having a “know it all” attitude. Manipulating people for one’s personal agenda. Using knowledge as power over people. Feeling above everyone else. Co-dependant behaviour. One-eyed attitudes. Losing oneself in another.
Exactly trine that Mars/Mercury conjunction is the Moon's north node at Scorpio 20: A Woman Drawing Aside Two Dark Curtains That Closed The Entrance To A Sacred Pathway. This is an evocative degree that suggests the feminine mysteries, venturing down new pathways, women's issues, the revelation of mysteries that have long been hidden and it can show venturing into unknown territory. It is a fascinating degree and one that can lead to all kinds of insights into the mysteries of life.
Keywords: Mysteries revealed, sometimes after a long wait. Feminine mysteries laid out before you. Woman’s reproductive organs, the vulva, the vagina. The mysteries of the Goddesses. Getting past things that are cloaked or shielded from entry or view. Sexual mysteries. Open Sesame. Clairvoyant readings that reveal the ‘Path’. Invitations to the unknown. Drawing aside inhibitions. Following through on things. Undressing.
The Caution: Being seduced into dark and sinister things or being led astray. Not being shown the true picture or the truth. Frigidity and closing off sexual responses. Being, or feeling, shut out. Dark rooms with little sign of life.
The Quest degree of the Moon's north node is Scorpio 21: Obeying His Conscience, A Soldier Resists Orders. This is a degree of going, or wanting to go, AWOL, following the dictates of your true sense of direction, you could find yourself weighing up whether you can continue to do something that you may have signed up for, but am no longer quite so motivated to stay the course with. What is it that you're resisting? Perhaps there's something you need to back away from, to follow the dictates of your own 'conscience' - to call the shots of your own life.
Saturn is on one of the Cinderella degrees - Scorpio 12: A Brilliant Assembly Of Officials At An Official Embassy Ball. This degree often asks are you at the ball, all dressed up, looking fabulous and chatting with all the right people, or, are you at home, wearing the same clothes, wishing you were going out and wondering where your social life has gone? Perhaps you're waiting for the right invite, or, you could be waiting for the prince to turn up with the shoe that changes everything. Saturn here, though, can be vary wary of playing social, diplomatic or political games, although one can find themselves in the middle of them anyway. The trick is to see where we may be selling ourselves out, or, selling ourselves short. The Embassy Ball degree can have people landing at all the right places, with the right people at the right times and having extraordinary experiences. The other extreme is Cinderella sitting in the kitchen, wondering how she can break free of the crud that keeps her seemingly locked in place. Saturn can be suggesting that it's time to wash your face and get out and about.
Keywords: Political game playing. Manners and protocol. Dressing and looking right. Who knows who and what it’s worth. Social and political standing. The Cinderella story. Sparkling occasions. Knowing etiquette. Looking for social connections and outcomes that are not necessarily immediate. International relations. The “My Fair Lady” story. Social engineering. Speaking the right language.
The Caution: The habit of role-playing. Not being taught how to behave in “polite society”. Having to learn how to fit in without having instruction. Dining, drinking and enjoying life whilst others can “eat cake”. Diplomatic standoffs. Gate crashing. Feeling out of one’s depth. Political point scoring that ignores the human dimension.
Saturn is sextiling Pluto exactly, and, with Saturn now retrograde, a great many things will hang in the air waiting for the season to be right to make changes that Pluto in Capricorn is asking, especially around ones authority and standing in society - all the way from cleaning out the garage to doing a complete overhaul of your life.
Pluto is on Capricorn 12: A Student Of Nature Lecturing Revealing Little Known Aspects Of Life.
It is not easy to describe the sea with the mouth. Kokyu
Keywords: Observing and translating so others may learn. Green politics. Issues the conservatives don’t want revealed. Nature and natural remedies. Science and its rewards and drawbacks. Issues such as global warming. Whistle blowers. Natural healing methods. Documentaries. Conspiracy theories.
The Caution: Radical non-humanistic views. Intellectual smugness. ‘Lecturing’ and browbeating. Modern technological advances that stifle the environment. Lip service to conservation issues.
Every day, in large and small ways, we are amazed by the 'little known aspects of life' - sometimes by the small and oftentimes inconsequential, all the way to the startling and gorgeous realisations that can change your life. A sense of the meaning and experience of te world and life flashing before your eyes can bring forward new depth and a commitment to solid, earthly values. Magic, as always, plays a big part in it. No doubt we'll be hearing a lot more about climate science and climate change and other interesting chapters of life that we find ourselves observing.
Uranus is on Aries 7: A Man Successful Expressing Himself In Two Worlds (or Realms) At Once.
I’ve been trying for some time to develop a lifestyle that doesn’t require my presence. Gary Trudeau
Keywords: Integrating the spiritual with the material. Balancing things. Doing juggling acts. Moving through people’s lives and social stratas. Translations of words and thoughts from one area of life to another. Having separate family situations. Living a dual life. Being adaptable. Moonlighting. Alternate realities. Shifting focus when necessary. Versatility. Looking elsewhere.
The Caution: Fooling yourself that you can be all things to different people, but eventually failing in one or both. Exhaustion through trying to achieve too much. Deception, if allegiances are not clear. Infidelity and fickleness. Scattering of interests with little being achieved. Bigamy. Two-faced. Lies and masquerades. Feeling like one doesn’t truly fit in anywhere. Not being able to stop.
Finding that balance, seeing where the steps of the dance lead you, participating in life, feeling young and gregarious and enjoying the moment seem to be amongst the main themes. Enjoy!
