I remember having brunch in Sedona, Arizona, on New Year’s Day 2012 with two of my favorite soul brothers – Mongolian shaman Jade Wah’oo and shamanic astrologer Sao. As the sun shone brightly in a crystal-blue sky, we savored the sensual delights of a marvelous meal and conversation, a warm breeze dancing on our bare arms in the middle of winter.
We chatted about the potential and possibilities of this pivotal year, including the astrology (of course), the upcoming U.S. presidential election, the wave of revolution sweeping the planet, and sustainable choices we’re making in our day-to-day lives.
Back when I was writing my book, Cosmic Time, I asked Sao to look over the chapter I had written about the astrology of this period. Neither of us really wanted to “see” the intensity of the transits, but knew we must look. Now we’re living it, day by day. And we know this is just the beginning.
This week’s full moon in Virgo-Pisces illuminates the multi-faceted, multidimensional nature of this extraordinary year.
On one hand, you’ve got an exceptionally grounding effect as three planets travel through earth signs. On March 5, Venus is invited to the party when she enters Taurus, forming an exquisite grand trine with her companions Jupiter, Mars and Pluto. You may have noticed her cavorting with Jupiter and Mars after sunset lately. In the midst of upheaval and chaos, these jewels hanging in the night sky remind us of the grace within even the most challenging passages of our lives.
With the Sun, Chiron and Neptune in Pisces, intuition is heightened, but illusions run wild, too. Meditation and healing come naturally within the loving embrace of pure consciousness.
The full moon this Wednesday/Thursday will reveal what’s been held in the subconscious that needs to be released or transformed. It’s a mini-apocalypse (keeping in mind the true meaning of the word: “what has been hidden is revealed”). Watch for messages in dreams. Notice lingering emotional battles and the lure of addictions.
Meanwhile, Uranus in the early degrees of Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn, igniting creativity and guiding a persistent, ongoing drive for change at the most foundational levels of society and our individual lives. We’ve been feeling this urge for years. The energies will build as the next three full moons (supermoons on the three great lunar festivals of esoteric tradition) crescendo toward an explosive climax in June.
There’s an art to navigating the energetic complexity of this passage. How are you feeling it?
It amazes me how the transits are playing out in people’s lives. Cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn) are especially hard hit. This year, mutable signs (Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius) will start feeling the shift in a big way, too. This isn’t just for sun signs. Anyone with significant placements in these signs will feel the ground shaking.
I’m hearing lots of reports about things – like jobs, housing, relationships, plans, projects, what have you – falling apart, disintegrating, or radically change course all of a sudden. There’s an air of chaos and uncertainty that will only intensify in coming weeks and months.
The energies are highly creative, as well as destructive, so new things – like jobs, housing, relationships, plans, projects and what have you – manifest quickly and easily, replacing the old. Radical shifts are possible.
At times it’s a deliciously juicy ride. Other times, challenges seem insurmountable and anxiety or despair can set in. Realities form and dissolve constantly. One moment you’re crashing and burning, the next you’re the phoenix rising from the ashes. When everything’s in flux, it’s important to focus on what we’re creating through our thoughts, words, attention and action. These are the days of instant karma.
June will be here in the blink of an eye. If you thought the past two summers (winters, if you’re in the southern hemisphere) were rocky, just wait. There’s another round of eclipses coming up, the historic Transit of Venus and the first of seven exact squares between heavyweights Uranus and Pluto.
Trust me. Preparing now will pay off. These are long, slow transits, and change will happen in sudden bursts. It’s time now to warm up. Here are a few suggestions.
Spring (or fall, if you’re in the southern hemisphere) is a traditional time for cleaning, inside and out. Try a supported full-body cleanse. Streamline possessions. Who needs the stuff you don’t use? Give it away.
Plant (or at least plan) your garden, both physically and energetically. Clear vision and intent will reap an abundant harvest. Seed it now.
Take care of unfinished business, especially during Mercury’s retrograde transit from March 12 to April 4.
Check in with your personal astrology and notice what happens organically – without your prompting – during key passages. Flow with the natural rhythms.
As much as possible, stay grounded, focused, clear and positive. Allow the bliss. Notice miracles at play in your life and your world. Generate more of that.
How else can you support yourself and those you love as the transformative energies gear up?
Nurture body, mind and spirit with soulful practices and activities.
Harmonize with the Earth, the plant and animal kingdoms. Spend time in nature. Simplify.
Focus on values and relationships.
Study something that excites you.
Ritualize your intent, especially on key alignment dates like the new and full moons, eclipses, equinoxes and solstices.
Consciousness is everything. Stay alert, in touch with your surroundings and your inner voice. Be love.
Wishing you peace, clarity and vision in these magical times.
